PROJECT PARTNERS & COLLABORATORS – SOCIAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP IN DRR

The project on “Promotion of Social Entrepreneurship in Disaster Risk Reduction to Build Community Resilience” is led by Professor Joy Jacqueline Pereira of Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia’s Southeast Asia Disaster Prevention Research Initiative (SEADPRI-UKM). The pilot in Cambodia is led by Dr. Chhinh Nyda of the Royal University of Phnom Penh. The Project Members and Collaborators are as follows:

SEADPRI-Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia
SEADPRI-UKM undertakes deployment of the project including overseeing project deliverables. The institution also has the capacity to maintain and continue advancing social enterprises beyond the duration of the pilot project.

Royal University of Phnom Penh (RUPP)
RUPP is leading project implementation at Kampong Speu, Cambodia. RUPP will provide a role model for social entrepreneurship and contribute to the planning and implementation of strategies to enhance female participation within and among the project stakeholders in Cambodia and the region.

Geological Society of Malaysia (GSM)
GSM serves as the regional secretariat for geological societies in Southeast Asia. GSM will take the lead to build the capacity of female scientists and disseminate information to the ASEAN region through routine and on-going activities.

Malaysian Disaster Risk Reduction Service Organization (MDRRSO)
MDRRSO will support efforts to mainstream female social entrepreneurship in DRR by mobilizing public-private partnerships. The private sector will be actively engaged in this endeavor to champion the application of science and technology as a key element of reducing disaster risk.

Disaster Management Unit, Selangor State Office
The Disaster Management Unit, Selangor State Office will chair the Project Steering Committee to ensure efficient and proper implementation of the three pilots in Selangor.

National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA Malaysia)
NADMA is a Member of the Project Steering Committee. NADMA monitors the progress of the project and supports its implementation at the national level.

Asian Network on Climate Science and Technology (ANCST)
ACNST is instrumental in linking disaster risk reduction and climate change for building resilience in the region. ANCST will provide the virtual platform to link young scientists to experts and provide capacity building on disaster and climate resilience research.

Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia)
MetMalaysia as a research partner will provide expertise on climate variability and change that influence hazards in the region. The institution is also instrumental in supporting the development of an open-access disaster risk reduction platform.

University of Malaya (UM)
The University of Malaya’s Geology Department is a research partner that will provide expertise on geological hazards. The institution will also provide technical input in developing early warning for hazards and its integration within the open-access disaster risk reduction platform.

Academy of Sciences Malaysia (ASM)
The ASM will guide the implementation of the Open Access Policy of IDRC in Malaysia. The ASM will also support and ensure coherence between their open science digital platform and the disaster risk reduction platform developed in the project.
