Community Based GIS Applications (MyBahaya)
The web-based platform and crowd sourcing technology, named MyBahaya (meaning MyHazards in Malay) has been field tested with local communities. It was launched on 7 November 2023 at the 36th National Geoscience Conference by the Director General of the Mineral and Geoscience Department of Malaysia. The PhD candidates, interns and research assistants were involved in the field-testing. They obtained first-hand knowledge of how their research and skill-set as geologists is of value to the community. Field-testing revealed that functions on the platform need to be expanded to include information on governance and response measures, in addition to multi-hazard susceptibility.
