The CLARE-ASEAN program, in partnership with the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) and the ASEAN Secretariat, has launched a Call for Research Proposals to accelerate research for sustainable and inclusive urban resilience solutions in ASEAN. This initiative is funded by the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO-UK) and the International Development Research Centre (IDRC-Canada), which supports applied research projects across Africa and Asia.
About the Call
The CLARE-ASEAN program aims to fund 3 to 4 action-oriented research projects, each with a budget of CAD 300,000 to 400,000 over a 15-month period. The program seeks innovative research that addresses urban resilience to climate change and strengthens physical, social, and governance aspects in ASEAN cities.
Key Themes:
- Comprehensive urban resilience strategies: Addressing governance, policies, finance, integrated infrastructure, and decision-making tools.
- Resilience against urban heat extremes: Focusing on monitoring, heat management solutions (e.g., infrastructure, technologies, and nature-based solutions), and policy implementation.
- Solutions for vulnerable communities: Developing short- and long-term sustainable actions for at-risk urban populations.
Research Approach
Selected projects will:
- Utilize transdisciplinary and place-based approaches to co-develop solutions.
- Align with the IPCC Special Report on Climate Change and Cities.
- Apply gender equality and inclusion principles.
- Encourage multi-country collaborations to enhance knowledge-sharing and scalability.
