The University of the South Pacific (USP) and Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP), in conjunction with the Asian Network on Climate Science and Technology (ANCST), coordinated by Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia’s Southeast Asia Disaster Prevention Research Initiative (SEADPRI-UKM), Asia-Pacific Network for Global Change Research (APN), International Science Council Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific (ICSU-ROAP) and other partners are conducting an initiative to strengthen Asia Pacific contribution to the Sixth Assessment Cycle of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC AR6).
The Workshop aims to familiarize Pacific scientists with the IPCC process and engage with science institutions relevant to the IPCC in the Pacific. Discussion will focus on (i) IPCC and the Pacific – How the region can benefit and contribute; (ii) Building Research Capacity-Voices from the Pacific; and (iii) Identifying Pathways & Building Partnerships to Advance S&T in the Pacific. A major highlight is the Review Workshop for Chapter 15 on Small Islands, to conduct group chapter review and produce substantial comments to be uploaded onto the IPCC website.
Early career scientists below the age of 35 and based in the Pacific Islands are encouraged to join the workshop, on a self-funded basis. A very limited number of places are available and the registration deadline is 12 November 2019.
